Typical You

about

"Typical You" is rather atypical in my song catalog, as it's one of the only ones with blatant sex described. Prince or Freddie Mercury, I aint.

It's a topsy-turvy song (a satyr song?) where the singer complains about a girlfriend who's perfect and loving, asking himself bitterly why can't he find someone to degrade and take him for granted.

This one is artificial to some extent. I've never had a girlfriend that "perfect:" a rich, gorgeous, loving, ding-a-ling sexpot with sexy friends she's happy to let me sleep with who'll wait on me hand and foot and laugh at my every joke. At the time of writing it, however, I'd had exactly the opposite usually, so this song is very true in its untruth.

Sounds like a James Taylor song sung by Cat Stevens maybe. There's even a nice twist on "Shower the People You Love With Love."

lyrics

"Typical You"
(vonHummer)

You wait up for me though I show up late, unworried, and you climb on top of me and beg to have your way, we come at the same time, I tell you I don't know why you're so nice as you get dressed to buy more ice,

Typical you, why can't I find myself someone atypical? Typical you, typical you...

You build your body like a Penthouse Pet, you only think of me,
laugh at my jokes which you don't really get, you dress so scantily,
I tell you you're starting to bore me stiff and you just giggle and reply, "As if."

Typical you, why can't I find myself someone atypical? Typical you, typical you...

I will not stand to be treated like a king til I find a queen who wants to share my reign, Is there a woman for me somewhere on this earth
who can shower me with a little disgust and disdain?

You came to me with independent wealth, you love to cook and clean,
bring by your girlfriends saying, "Enjoy yourself..." and that's exactly what you mean, I tell you I don't see how you don't mind
and you reply to me, "Love's like blind."

Typical you, why can't I find myself someone atypical? Typical you, typical you...
