about
In the early 90's (late 80s?) Tom Hanks hosted Saturday Night Live, and there was a Wayne's World sketch where he played Garth's cousin, a roadie for Aerosmith. Before the band plays, Hanks checks the microphones by saying "Sibilance!...Sibilance!" to check the sibilant "s" sounds on the PA. That struck me as so novel—do pros actually do that??—I wanted to right a song where "sibilance, sibilance" were the first words, ostensibly so I could do a sound check AND start the first number, and it might be a laugh.
And so you have "To Slur with Love," which was a clever title I'd been carrying around for a while. By luck, I paired it with the sibilant idea and there you have it. And by the time you get to the "how much you want my diction" bit, the silliness has reached a regrettable level.
I really have no reason to like this song as much as I do. But I do.

"To Slur with Love"
(vonHummer)
Sibilance, sibilance,
Testing testing one two three,
Sibilance, sibilance, sibilance,
Check check check, can you hear me?
Only I know what I'm trying to say,
and that's likely how it's going to stay,
as I gaze up at you gazing back down at me from above,
I can feel how much you want my diction,
but I'm starting to slur with love,
To slur with love, love, o jai waddeva, om ny binadum...
with love, love...hagh mi madeendnum...
Sibilance, sibilance,
puff puff puff is this on?
Sibilance, sibilance, sibilance,
don't turn me down the feedback's gone,
I try and try and try to form the words,
unintelligible sounds occur, as you sway in a
volcanic rhythm all your own just above,
I can feel you reach for my diction,
only to slur with love
To slur with love, love, ja hadra riddnum...
To slur with love, love, ha ba mazuzza...
Sibilance, sibilance,
Testing testing one two three,
Sibilance, sibilance, sibilance,
Check check check, can you hear me?
Sibilance, sibilance,
puff puff puff is this on?
Sibilance, sibilance, sibilance,
don't turn me down the feedback's gone,
