about

"Sometime Soon" was written—I'm guessing—in mid 2004. At about that time I was starting to notice how my Beloved at the time was always...gone, coming home later and later from work. The lyrics are an exaggeration of what was becoming disturbing to me: not being rushed home to.

I remember waiting at home at the dining room table as the evening wore on and writing down some really good lyrics. Wrote the tune then and there, too, which doesn't often happen for me. Then I called my own voicemail and played and sang it so I'd remember how it went and all.

In Fall of 2004 when I sat down to record the first version of it, I could neither find the lyrics nor the phone message. It was such a strong tune, though, that it still was stuck in my mind and I wrote it all over again, recording it for an album called "October Surprise" that was given away at a show that month. It's a simple accoustic album, and I'll be releasing it—when, my children? That's right: "soon!"

You can download that version free at vonHummer.com, here:

(It's been in a revamped episode of the tv show.)

This version is much more Genesis-like, to me, in the beat, with the Pink Floyd like whisper-y background vocals. I knew this would be the opening song to go along with the "strut" that opens up the film.

lyrics

"Sometime Soon" [vonHummer]

Got no way of knowing where the wind is blowing tumbleweed you/For this last hour or two/To have some notion of your homeward locomotion would do/Can you steer it here, my dear/and make it sometime soon?

Make it sometime soon/Maybe solve my mystery?/Sometime soon/Come to call, fool kiss-a-me/Sometime soon, Que Será's okay by me/When will be what will be we two?/Make it sometime soon/Shoot the moon, shucks,
shoot the breeze/Sometime soon/wanna be my wannabe?/Sometime soon seems to take an eternityTime's a-wastin' awaitin' on you...

What the hell is one more message sittin' on yer cell
gonna do/to somehow summon you?/I know you slip out
on your sloop whenever I'm in pursuit/Must I feign
disdain in vain to make it sometime soon?/

Make it sometime soon/Maybe solve my mystery?/Sometime soon/Come to call, fool kiss-a-me/Sometime soon, Que Será's okay by me/When will be what will be we two?/Make it sometime soon/Shoot the moon, shucks,
shoot the breeze/Sometime soon/wanna be my wannabe?/Sometime soon seems to take an eternityTime's a-wastin' awaitin' on you...
