Some People. This one seems rather George Harrisonian to me, whiny and mysterious at the same time. I wrote it in an era where I wasn't particularly fond of myself. Like most "finger pointin' songs," this one, too, points a finger mostly at the man in the mirror. This one seems to seek company for its misery, though. Self-loathers of the world, unite!
Initially, the arrangement was really soft, but I've settled for dogged and it's the murkiest-sounding cut on the album. The Phil-Collinsesque backing vocals inject a decent amount of pep in the track, however, with their relentless "somepeople/somepeople/somepeople..." chant.
This one is a natural flipside for the let-it-all-hang-out fecklessness of "Dumbluck Avenue." The fellow in "Some People" won't be having a good time there, no matter how many lobsters, lawn chairs, or six packs he happens upon.
