about

This is my favorite track on this album, and far superior to the original, I say. No one was more surprised than me to find this song to be so popular, based on the downloads.

That's the Danelectro Longhorn Bass, and the tremolo effect from my Roland Micro Cube, an effect I almost never use, but it shimmers nicely here.

And there's that same damn motorcycle in the background at the end. Must have made me furious at the time. It's art now, though, eh?

lyrics

"New"
(vonHummer)
New shoes getting old, new news getting old, new views getting old, yeah, older all the time,
New rich getting old, new bridge getting old, new bitch getting old, yeah, older all the time,
Stand still a minute let me take you in and pass you along, here we go, here we go: drunken down the road headlong,
Stand still a minute as your minute’s been made, bought, and sold, yes indeed: life is sweet, but only til the moment that the new becomes old…
New toys getting old, new noise getting old, new joys getting old, yeah, older all the time,
New Deal getting old, new feel getting old, new wheels getting old, yeah, older all the time,
Stand still a minute, tell me where I’ve seen your face once before, here we go, here we go: friends forevermore,
Stand still a minute, my mistake: you’re a stranger, I’m told,
I declare, everywhere I look to see the new I see something old…
New wife getting old, new drive getting old, new life getting old, yeah, older all the time,
New York getting old, new work getting old, young jerk getting old, yeah, older all the time
Stand still a minute there’s a breeze freeze-drying my tears, blasting off, blasting off the phantom friends passing here,
Stand still a minute as I ask you coming in from the cold:
What’s new? Dust a few cobwebs off yourself and set your new on the old...
