You never know which songs an artist thinks of as deeply representative of their point of view and which are just guises for perspective. I'm sorry to say that this terribly shallow song is deeply representative of my point of view.

I'll get it out up front that the riff is somewhat reminiscent of the riff to the Who's masterpiece "5:15," but otherwise I'm delightfully proud of this one that, as far as I remember, nobody's ever admitted to liking. Mystery to me. The puns! The wordplay! The sly doggerel!The shaker pick! It references Buddy Holly, Olivia Newton-John, Billie Holiday, Kris Kristofferson, AND the Rascals! Come ON, people: is everyone tasteless or...is it just me? Don't answer that.

I'm thinking I wrote the lyrics in 2000 or so, but it seems way older. Do ATM's still give messages like "Insufficient Funds?" I swear I used to see that one all the time. Maybe I'm living better this decade. But experiences of the kinds described in the song certainly had me feeling like the fraud/outsider singing this one.

Production-wise, this is yet another rerecording done to fill a need for a downloadable mp3 to match the live song on "The vonHummer Hour." That's the Danelectro Longhorn bass, with the same wah-wah Zoom 505 effect I was using in 2001 for the live show at the Mad Hatter, and, of course, the shaker pick.
