Insane by 3

about

Surely "Insane by 3" is the only song I wrote on bicycle? No. Now that I think of it, "Mystery Light," "Private Jokes," and "You and You and You" were also written while commuting by bike to work in the late 90s.

But "Insane by 3" certainly has the most direct hate of employment, lyrically. It's that kind of math one does when stuck in a job one can't stand. "If I just hang in 3 more years, I'll be fully vested and..." until it's "If I can just hold on 30 more minutes, I can nap in the car at lunch..."

lyrics

"Insane by 3"
[vonHummer]

You know the game: cover your ass with one hand while the other points the finger of blame, you know the game…

You know the rules: keep a monkey wrench for slowing progress and enough rope to hang themselves for fools in your working tools…

Is there a reason for staying, a reason for playing along with these games of power? Well let me see: you’ll be fully vested in four short years, but you’ll be fully insane by three…Fully insane by three…Fully insane by three…Insane by three…

You know the bullshit rolls downhill and back fills the empty cubicles, you know the bull…

You know the talk: sounds like self-help poetry, but it’s “My Way or Highway” talk, stamped with Cain’s mark…

Is there a reason to hold on? A place to unload on? Somewhere Happy Hour? Some way to blow off steam? You’ll have time to unwind come Eight PM, but you’ll be fully insane by three...
