"Goodbye See You" closes out the album because it's always good policy to end with a goodbye note of some kind. This is especially good policy if the artist should die, leaving the album as his last. I can't think of an artist who's done that. Possibly Freddie Mercury, with "Show Must Go On," on Queen's last effort while alive. But why buck superstition?

On Valentine's Day, just before bedtime, the woman I'd been living with for 7 years chirped matter-of-factly that she wanted my son and I out of her house in two weeks. And, goodnight.

Like James Taylor with "Fire and Rain," I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song. Well, it was the next afternoon, actually. Anytime I shut down my Zoom 16 track a little message flashes: "Goodbye See You." And as I read it just then, the tune for this song came to me. I scrawled the lyrics out and wrote the tune in about 10 minutes. Then recorded a quick demo so I wouldn't forget it. (I can't read or write music, see.)

Right from the beginning I knew I wanted to mix it with the "see you...see you...see you..." going from ear to ear in stereo. If you haven't heard this one with the ear buds in, you owe it to yourself.

There's about a million metaphors stepping all over themselves in this one, as I try to summarize what's happened and what I'll do now and bounce back to what happened and sort for meaning. Just like my mind tends to do at such times of instant crisis. Especially the metaphors. Like I can't grasp the actual situation except through metaphor.
