Blame It on the Aliens

about

At some point in the late 80s, I read some really good alien abduction books. Whitley Strieber's "Communion," of course, was good, but the really shocking one was Budd Hopkins "Missing Time." I think that was the one that had guys being abducted and forced to impregnate alien hybrid women with hot bodies. I don't suppose old Budd thought he was writing Penthouse Forum letters, but I found the accounts highly...uh...hot.

Being in an awful marriage at the time—maybe the 90s?—when I wrote "Blame it on the Aliens," I could only WISH some Grays would abduct me every night and mate me with their intergalactic butterfaces. Alas, I had to settle for a song about it.

As far as I know. The Grays, they implant cover memories so you don't remember the abductions. Don't laugh, I actually read that fact! I read it!

This is the only song I ever "talk-sang," and it worried me a bit, because I don't like my regular speaking voice. I needn't have lost any sleep over it. I managed a talky voice on the recording every bit as endearingly false as my singing voice. Whew!

lyrics

"Blame it on the Aliens"
[vonHummer]

Sit down, baby, I got something to say, You’ve been wondering why lately, well, it seems like I’m slippin’ away? Why sometimes I stay out all night, why I don’t wanna talk or make love? Well, the fault lies not in me, but in the stars above, Let explain, you see,

I been wonderin’ why myself, You know it’s not like me, I love you more than any words can say, and I desire you like crazy, Still I come home Saturday, Sunday mornings with no idea where I’ve been, like somebody locked me out of my own brain and wouldn’t let me back in,

I finally went downtown to this doctor, He put me in a hypnotic state, Here’s his number if you wanna call him, He’s got it all on tape, You said you’d take me for better or worse, I hope you meant that vow, You won’t believe me, but, baby, please try: I really need you now,

Blame it on the aliens, They keep taking me away from you, Blame it on the aliens, There’s nothing I can say or do, Oh, Blame it on the aliens, I’m just a pawn in their cosmic game, Blame it on the aliens and help me throught the anger and shame…

I don’t blame you, baby, I wouldn’t buy it myself, I got some more explaining to do, I only hope it will help, Yes, it was lipstick, you did smell perfume, as I came home exhausted and sweaty: the Grays, they forced me into hot sex with women they abducted already,
I tried to fight ‘em, I wanted to scream, I tried to remain true, In the end, I shut my eyes tight and thought only of you,

Blame it on the aliens, They keep taking me away from you, Blame it on the aliens, there’s nothing anyone can do, Oh, Blame it on the aliens, I’m like their laboratory ape, Blame it on the aliens, I’m an interstellar victim of rape,

Of course it was beer you smelled on my breath! They make me do beer bongs before I can leave, They wanna ruin my credibility, like I’m a drunk no one would believe…

I need you, baby, You’ve got beautiful eyes, It’s okay, No, please, I forgive you, You don’t have to apologize, Just next time I’m gone for the weekend, try and understand, Stay at home and wait faithfully, then hold me as tight as you can,

Blame it on the aliens, They keep taking me away from you, Blame it on the aliens, I only wish it wasn’t true, Oh, Blame it on the aliens, Once for them is never enough, Blame it on the aliens, They must think I got the right stuff,

Hey, they choose who they choose, and now I got the “Gray Blues,”
Hey, they abduct who they wanna abduct, and it means I may get wildly…examined,

Blame it on the aliens, You’ll get used to it, just give it time,
I love you, too, baby…
