Are You Committed? The riff in this one seems very Moody Blues, but the background parts are very Who to me. I love how it gallops along. Another advice song to end what may be a very preachy album. Hopefully not annoyingly so. The advice in this one seems cryptic enough to enjoy, with decent playful turns of phrase.
I was thinking of Jimi Hendrix when I wrote this one, who asked "Are you experienced? Have you ever been experienced?" But my question, in regards to working with anybody...Screw experience, ARE YOU COMMITTED?? And, also, HR would like me to ask if, uh, you've ever been committed..
Specifically it's about being committed to the process of things, and not the people or company or party or what have you. That's easy to do and say. "Sure...People are our greatest resource etc etc..." But it's commitment to the process of endeavors that matters most, I says.
Processes like getting to know each other, appreciating mistakes as a natural part of the learning process, forgiving mistakes, respecting differences in perspective and trying to reach compromise—commitments to these are much harder, much more rare than "my way or the highway," which currently masquerades as "commitment."

Are You Committed?
(vonHummer)
If you must make waves/Do it/Without too much tumult/Can you care enough to keep committed/And indifferent to the result?/Because it's there/We must climb the hill of beans/Where the bitter end/Justifies just beyond our means/
Are you committed?/If you are, say "Yes!"/Are you committed/To the process?
If you have end-run/Endurance/And you give good quality Assurance/And deforesting the forest/For the trees/Somehow to you makes sense/Because the wrapping's/Worth more than the gift/The lowered tide/Leaves us beaucoup boats to lift...
Are you committed?/If you are, say "Yes!"/Are you committed/To the process?
Committed to the process/Regardless of result?/Join the people for Freedom From!/Committed to the process?/Regulation declaration of result independence?/Bang the fife!/Blow the drum!
If you can't put up/And shut out/All them outstanding standouts/Can you concentrate on traits of triumph/Inside, residing til presiding?/Because desire/Sires the labrador/That swings to bring all/Brought down lucky ducks to shore...
Are you committed?/If you are, say "Yes!"/Are you committed/To the process?
Are you committed?/Have you ever been committed...?

Long split up, but not forgotten. Some say the Winebirds functioned as an ersatz Fleetwood Mac, and that's more than fair, but to me, they functioned as a real-life Partridge Family. vonHummer
